Ever since I was young, I always knew that I would be rich, I never doubted it for a second. As I have gotten older I have still maintained this type of mentality and continued attempting to educate myself in all different fields, business and finance in particular. I have not always been a fan of reading books, that is in fact, until I found books that I fell in love with, of course, they are still in the same type of category of business and finance. I decided to dig a little deeper into what are some characteristics of rich/wealthy people? What do they all have in common? Here are some common traits and advice that I have gathered from reading books, watching interviews and listening to podcasts. These people include Warren Buffett, Mark Cuban, and Bill Gates.
They all wake up early. They all say that waking up early gives you a head start on everyone else. I woke up one day at 5:30am and went to the gym, bought groceries, read and responded to a few email all before my friends and family were waking up. The good thing about waking up early aside from getting a “head start” on everyone is that not many people wake up that early, therefore your phone won’t distract you. You won’t be receiving text messages or calls from anyone else, you get alone time to focus on yourself.
- They all read. Warren Buffett said he reads 80% of the day and “Read 500 pages like this every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.” Mark Cuban reads for about 3 hours a day. On Bill Gates instagram you’ll find a couple of books that he has read and recommends.
- Work hard. Of course, this sounds as simple as breathing but how simple really is it? For example, if you eat the same meal for dinner every night, don’t you think you’ll get tired of it? I know I personally would. The key is to be consistent and continuously remain focused on something everyday. There is always someone out there working better and harder than you are today. Mark Cuban says “work like there is someone working 24 hours a day to take it away from you.”
- They know how to say no. Sometimes the best deal you can make, is not making the deal at all. You don’t always need to make a deal with someone and you should always be prepared to walk away.
Of course, the list can go on about these amazing people but with these 3 characteristics, I know that if I stick with them I create the path of where I want to be and you can too.
